About Us

The Sun Prairie County Water District was incorporated in 1974.  The District supplies drinking water and irrigation to the Sun Prairie Estates.  There are 103 households using the drinking water system.

The homes that have river frontage do not have District irrigation.  They have water rights with their own lines and pumps so they can pump irrigation water directly out of the Sun River.  The Water Manager/Operator turns the irrigation pumps on each May 15th and then turns them off on October 15th.  However, if it is snowing or snow still on the ground the water will not be turned on until weather permitting.  Also, if we get some days of rain during the summer the pumps are usually not turned on.

The District has applied to receive a grant for updating the drinking water system.  If we receive the grant we will be digging new wells, as well as putting in more fire hydrants for the safety of the Estates.

The District is continuing the process to update the drinking water system.  KLJ is the engineering firm hired to oversee the entire upgrade project.
